Academic Search Premier
Multi-disciplinary full text database containing full text for nearly 4,650 serials, including more than 3,600 peer-reviewed publications. In addition to the full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 8,200 journals.

 

ATLA Religion Database
ATLA Religion Database provides information on topics such as biblical studies, world religions, church history, and religion in social issues. ATLA contains more than 1.3 million bibliographic records covering the research literature of religion in 35 languages. It includes more than 430,000 article citations from more than 1,500 journals (600 currently indexed), more than 200,000 essay citations from 15,300 multi-author works, and more than 400,000 book review citations. Most coverage spans from 1949 to the present while ambitious retrospective indexing is underway taking indexing of select titles whose publication pre-dates 1949 back to their original publication date. This database is an essential resource for researchers and students in theology as well as in social sciences, history, and humanities. This database is produced by the American Theological Library Association.

 

Bibliography of Asian Studies (BAS)
This on-line version of the Bibliography of Asian Studies (BAS) contains over 545,000 records on all subjects (especially in the humanities and the social sciences) pertaining to East, Southeast, and South Asia published worldwide from 1971 to the present. Through the 1991 printed version, the BAS included citations to Western-language periodical articles, monographs, chapters in edited volumes, conference proceedings, anthologies, and Festschriften, etc. Monographs published since 1992 have not been added to the database, and users seeking such monographs are urged to consult other general resources and databases (RLIN, OCLC, etc.).

 

Contemporary Authors
Provides complete biographical and bibliographical information and references on more than 120,000 U.S. and international authors.

 

Hawaii Pacific Journal Index
Hawaii Pacific Journal Index is a Voyager Online Catalog Citation index to nearly 100 journals published in or about Hawaii and covering all subjects. A listing of titles indexed in HPJI is available.

 

Ingenta
The Ingenta Library Gateway is a searchable multidisciplinary index database of more than 11 million citations from over 20,000 journals. Electronic, fax and Ariel document delivery is available for millions of articles.

 

JSTOR Arts and Sciences I Collection
Provides full-text journal backfiles in various disciplines. The JSTOR project's primary goal is to build a reliable and comprehensive archive of important scholarly journal literature. Selected journals in the following subject areas are available: African-American Studies, Anthropology, Asian Studies, Ecology, Economics, Education, Finance History, Literature, Mathematics, Philosophy, Political Science, Population Studies, Sociology and Statistics.

 

Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts
Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts covers all aspects of the study of language including phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics. Complete coverage is also given to various fields of linguistics including descriptive, historical, comparative, theoretical and geographical linguistics. Dates covered are from 1973 to the present. Access is through Cambridge Scientific Abstracts.

 

MLA (Modern Language Association) International Bibliography
The MLA International Bibliography is a subject index for books and articles published on modern languages, literatures, folklore, and linguistics. It is produced by the Modern Language Association (MLA), an organization dedicated to the study and teaching of language and literature. The electronic version of the Bibliography dates back to 1963 and contains over 1.6 million citations from more than 4,400 periodicals (including peer-reviewed e-journals) and 1,000 book publishers. It is compiled by the staff of the MLA Department of Bibliographic Information Services with the cooperation of more than 100 contributing bibliographers in the United States and abroad. Such international coverage is represented by literature from Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and North and South America, and while the majority of records are from English-language publications, at least sixty other languages are represented including French, Spanish, German, Russian, Portuguese, Norwegian, and Swedish.

 

The Philosopher's Index
The Philosopher's Index is a bibliographic database with informative, author-written abstracts covering scholarly resarch in all areas of philosophy. The literature covered goes back to 1940 and includes journal articles, books, book chapters such as contributions to an anthology, and book reviews.

 

Project Muse
Project Muse provides access to selected full text of approximately 250 scholarly journals published by university presses. The publishers involved are Johns Hopkins University Press, Carnegie Mellon University Press, Duke University Press, Indiana University Press, MIT Press, Oxford University Press, Pennsylvania State University Press, University of Hawaii Press, University of Texas Press, and the University of Wisconsin Press. Most journals included are in arts and humanities.

 

PsycINFO
PsycINFO provides citations and abstracts of international journal articles, chapters, books, technical reports and dissertations in psychology and related disciplines. Produced by the American Psychological Association it covers over 1,400 journals, representing professional and scientific literature from over 50 countries going back to 1872. Chapter and book coverage includes worldwide English language material published since 1987. More than 55,000 records are added each year. This access is provided through Cambridge Scientific Abstracts.

 

Religion & Philosophy Collection
The Religion and Philosophy Collection is a comprehensive database covering such topics as world religions, major denominations, biblical studies, religious history, epistemology, political philosophy, philosophy of language, moral philosophy and the history of philosophy. There are over 240 full text journals.

 

Sociological Abstracts
Sociological Abstracts is an index with abstracts to the literature of sociology from 2,700 journals and other serials, books, dissertations, and conference papers published worldwide. Coverage is from 1963 and includes all facets of sociology and related disciplines including anthropology, criminology, education, law and penology, race relations, social psychology and urban studies. Over 2,500 new records are added monthly. Access is through Cambridge Scientific Abstracts.

Dissertations & Theses (PQD&T) includes bibliographic citations for the doctoral and master's work of authors from more than 1,000 graduate schools and universities dating back to 1861. More than 750,000 dissertations and theses from 1997 on have been digitized and are available for PDF download.

About the Religion Collections

 

UHM Library contains approximately 76,000 books directly concerning Religion as well as thousands of other books in related fields such as Anthropology, History, Philosophy, Psychology, and Sociology. The general periodical collection contains 62 journals on Religion. There are also periodicals in other areas of the library such as the Asia Collection where there are 64 journals concerning Religion.

The general collection covers religions from around the world. The United States, Western Europe, Asia and the Pacific are emphasized. Included are works of comparative religion as well as works on the major traditions, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism. The Asia Collection and the Hawaiian/Pacific Collection also have a significant amount of material on the religions of those geographic areas.
