About the Spanish and Portuguese Language and Literature Collection

Consists of approximately 27,000 books and 100 periodicals concerning Spanish and Portuguese languages as well as many more books and periodicals in related fields.

In addition to the language selectors, discipline selectors (e.g., history, world literature, linguistics, religion, and philosophy) select language materials in their subject areas.

A few English language materials are selected in the areas of literary criticism, comparative literature, and language pedagogy. Secondary literature is selectively acquired in other languages.

Emphasis is on the languages and literatures of the Mediterranean basin, metropolitan Spain and Portugal and Latin America. The Portuguese in the Pacific are also of interest. Current imprints are emphasized. Older works in reprint or in new, critical editions are also sought.

Library Collection Policy Statement for Languages, Linguistics, and Literature - Europe and the Americas

Note:
The book count was calculated by combining the title count from relevant PC, PN and PQ Library of Congress Classification areas. The figures are based on the 1997 North American Title Count, University of Hawaii at Manoa Library. The number of serials supporting Spanish and Portuguese language studies was calculated by doing a subject search in the library catalog with the terms Spanish and Portuguese periodicals.
