Environmental Studies Program The Environmental Studies program at the University of Hawaii at Manoa offers opportunities for individually designed courses of study under the Interdisciplinary Studies Program of the College of Arts and Sciences. The program offers two options: 1) A Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a Major Equivalent in Environmental Studies or 2) a Certificate in Environmental Studies to augment other academic majors. The Environmental Center of the University serves as the coordinator and student advisor for the Environmental Studies program. The program encourages a great deal of self-direction to accommodate the student's individual goals and interests. Students may design their curricula to focus on the environmental aspects of natural resource management, law, public health, education, pollution control, chemistry, or marine issues, to name a few of the possible areas of concentration. The Environmental Studies advisor assists in identifying the options and opportunities for each student in accordance with their needs and interest.
Completion of the Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major equivalent
in Environmental Studies provides adequate training for both
environmentally based careers as well as graduate studies. Graduates
are employed by state and federal agencies, research institutes,
park services, and private organizations. Others pursue graduate
studies in Environmental Sciences, Resource Management, Geography,
Planning, Public Health, and Law.
