Recent Reviews Draft Environmental Assessment International Market Place & Waikiki Redevelopment & Deep Seawater Cooling System - Honolulu, Oahu Comments Due (OEQC): April 21, 2005 Comments Due (EC): April 19, 2005 Summary: The Board of Water Supply (BWS) and the Queen Emma Foundation propose to redevelop the 4.83 acre International Market Place and the Waikiki Town Center. The location is in central Waikiki and currently consists of four properties. These properties will be demolished and replaced with approximately 192,000 to 241,176 square feet of gross leasable area (303,533 square feet of total floor area). A potential component of the redevelopment will be a deep seawater well district cooling system. The well will be constructed by the BWS and will extract approximately 2.5-3.0 million gallons per day (mgd) of cold seawater. The depth of the well will extend about 900 feet. Construction for the source and injection wells is expected to begin in late 2005 or early 2006. The estimated construction time for the project is approximately 6 months. The total cost is estimated to be $3,000,000 to $4,000,000. Manele Small Boat Harbor Ferry System - Lana'i, Lana'i Comments Due (OEQC): April 21, 2005 Comments Due (EC): April 18, 2005 Summary: The State of Hawaii, Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) purposes to improve Manele Small Boat Harbor (MSBH). The improvements are needed to supplement two inter-island ferry services (capacity: 149 passengers) from MSBH on Lana'i to the islands of Maui and Moloka'i. A draft Environmental Assessment (EA) is prepared for the Ma'alaea harbor on the island of Maui, and was published in the February 23rd Environmental Notice (EN). The Ma'alaea harbor improvements are purposed for the same purpose as this project. The Lana'i project is being financed federally and locally to comply with the current code requirements. The cost of the project is estimated to be $6,500,000 and will require approximately 8 to 12 months for construction. Ma'alaea Small Boat Harbor Improvements - Ma'alaea, Maui Comments Due (OEQC): April 6, 2005 Comments Due (EC): April 1, 2005 Summary: The State of Hawaii, Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) purposes to improve Ma'alaea Small Boat Harbor (MSBH). The improvements are needed to supplement two inter-island ferry services (capacity: 149 passengers) from MSBH on Maui to the islands of Lana'i and Moloka'i. A draft Environmental Assessment (EA) is prepared for the Manele harbor on the island of Lana'i, and is published in the March 8th Environmental Notice (EN). Draft Environmental Impact Statement DHHL East Kapolei Development Parcel B - 'Ewa, Oahu Comments Due (OEQC): March 9, 2005 Comments Due (EC): March 4, 2005
Summary: The State of Hawai'i, Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) proposes to develop a community in Kapolei on approximately 92.1 acres of mostly vacant agricultural land. Of these 92.1 acres, 67.6 will be devoted to providing 400 lots for single-family residential use. These lots will be designated for qualifying native Hawaiian beneficiaries. A DHHL "headquarters" office will occupy 9.3 acres. This office facility would allow for up to 150 employees and comprise 40,000 square feet. A community center that will be open to all homestead families as well as the general public will occupy 10.7 acres. This center would be developed and operated by the Salvation Army. The remaining 4.5 acres of land will be designated park use. The cost of the project is split between on-site improvements approximating $26 million and offsite improvements at approximately $12 million. The development will be run in phases, with phase I running through mid-March 2005 and phase II beginning at the end of May 2006 and continuing through January 2007. Oneula Beach Park -- Drainage way Improvements - Kaloi Gulch/Ewa, Oahu Comments Due (OEQC): February 7, 2005 Summary: To meet with the City and County of Honolulu 100-year storm flow requirements in accordance with its Storm Drainage Standards; Haseko, Inc. propose to improve the existing Kaloi Gulch drainage way through the Oneula Beach Park in 'Ewa Beach, Oahu. These improvements include enlarging the existing drainage way to provide flood control for the communities within the Kaloi Gulch Watershed.
