Purpose
The purpose of this project was to gather a list of informational websites to post on the School Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring of Hawaii's Watersheds website (hereafter called the Project) so that teachers and students would be able to link to related sites to conduct background or related research.
Method
I started by looking through the Project website to get an idea of the types of background information that might be important. Pages of particular importance were the Field Data Entry Sheets, which require participants to log a variety of information such as water quality and the types of aquatic species encountered.
I then conducted a web search using a variety of terms entered into a search engine and I went to websites that looked like they might contain useful information. If the site contained useful information that could serve as a resource for the Project, I bookmarked it for further review. A similar search was conducted by entering a known local website (for example, the Department of Land and Natural Resources), and searching the links listed on their pages. Again, I bookmarked usable sites for further review.
After gathering a number of local and national sites, I began reading through these web pages and preparing a summary statement of the information that could be found on the site. 20 URLs are listed here with the summary statements.
