LEI Aloha Grant Staff

The LEI Aloha team works collaboratively to encourage teaching changes that infuse technology into curriculum. Through its Administration, Digital Media Group, and Technology Mentoring teams, the LEI Aloha projects tackles the challenges facing teachers from multiple perspectives.

 

Catherine P. Fulford Ph.D. - Project Director & Principal Investigator, PT3 Catalyst Grant; Principal Investigator, PT3 Implementation Grant

Dr. Fulford, a Professor for the Educational Technology Department in the College of Education at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, has a background in instructional systems, which includes expertise in needs assessment, instructional design and development, visual design, and video. Her research is in distance learning, cognitive speed, and technology integration. Dr. Fulford's extensive experience in management of instructional systems and grant writing as brought substantial funding to the department including a series of six grants totaling over $6.3 million in funding and matching resources for the Technology Intensive course project. She has served as principle investigator for these grants and currently serves as the Project Director for the PT3 Catalyst Grant. Contact Dr. Fulford at fulford@hawaii.edu.


Curtis P. Ho Ph.D. - Project Director & Principal Investigator, PT3 Implementation Grant; Principal Investigator, PT3 Catalyst Grant

Dr. Ho, an Associate Professor for the Educational Technology Department in the College of Education at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, specializes in multimedia and web design, and distance learning. He has extensive experience in designing instructional programs for all levels of education and in private sectors. His area of research is technology integration. Dr. Ho's expertise in developing and coordinating partnerships has provided the matching funds to make grant funding possible. He has been Principle Investigator for a series of six grants totaling over $6.3 million in funding and matching resources for the Technology Intensive course project. He served as the Project Director for the recent PT3 Implementation Grant and serves as Principal Investigator, on the current PT3 Catalyst Grant. Contact Dr. Ho at curtis@hawaii.edu.


Rachel Rivers, M.A. - Project Manager, PT3 Implementation Grant and
Catalyst

Grant Rachel Rivers, Project Manager for the LEI Aloha Grant Project in the Department of Educational Technology, has a background in English-as-a- Second-Language, Deaf Education, and Psychology, and is pursuing a Doctorate in Education. She has experience in cross-disciplinary technology integration and her current research agenda focuses on systemic program evaluation and technology integration across multiple institutions. She has taught both at the University of Hawaii and on the mainland. Ms. Rivers has experience managing 23 project staff in the day to day operations of two simultaneous grant projects totaling over $6.1 million in federal funding. She served as a co-author of the PT3 Catalyst grant. Her leadership in a partnership with the Hawaii Department of Education (HDOE) provides a sabbatical opportunity for inservice teachers to become technology mentor teachers. Ariana Eichelberger, M.Ed. - Outreach Manager, PT3 Implementation Grant and Catalyst Grant


Ariana Eichelberger received her Masters in Education from the
University of Hawaii in Educational Technology. Prior to joining the
Lei Aloha project she was the manager of the Honolulu Academy of Arts
catering facility. Ms. Eichelberger was instrumental in writing the
PT3 Catalyst grant. She has conducted many workshops with the COE
faculty, staff, and students and is a pioneer in the technology
mentoring program that has provided services for over 70 faculty. She is
currently concentrating these efforts on distance learning courses. Ms.
Eichelberger also coordinates the Community College Partnership that
includes 7 campuses' efforts to create technology intensive courses.
She is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Technology
Learning Center (TLC). Ms. Eichelberger teaches the graduate Practicum

Gary Theal, B.A.A., M.Ed. - Digital Media Manager

Gary Theal has over 30 years of experience in educational and commercial radio and television, communication, and technology. He has an equally extensive experience in teaching elementary, secondary and post-secondary courses in the United States, Canada, and the Middle East. Mr. Theal was instrumental in writing the PT3 Catalyst grant and played a major role in securing the required $2.1 million from 12 matching partn and design aspects of the projects. Mr. Theal serves as producer/director for video programs that are broadcast on public educational television and reside on the project website. He coordinates a staff that develops and maintains the website providing a multitude of resources for the educational community. Mr. Theal also oversees work on multimedia products designed for Educational Technology courses. Contact Gary Theal at gtheal@hawaii.edu.


Diana Amundsen, B.A. - Resource Manager, PT3 Implementation Grant and
Catalyst Grant

Diana Amundsen has experience in secondary education, and research work in New Zealand, UK, and Japan. She works with the LEI Aloha Project team in matters of evaluation, supervision, operations, and budget. Her evaluation efforts include conducting focus groups to evaluate the mentoring program, multimedia course products, the project website, and the best practice videos. Ms. Admunsen coordinates major events for the project including the PT3 Collaborative Exchange and Conference and yearly staff orientations. Shuqiang Zhang, Ph.D. - Project Evaluator
As an Associate Professor, Department of Educational Psychology, University of Hawaii at Manoa, Dr. Zhang specialized in quantitative research methodology, statistics and second language acquisition. Contact Dr. Zhang at szhang@hawaii.edu.
