Problem
How much Nitrogen Oxide is in Hawaii's environment?
Research
Nitrogen Oxide is caused by cars, airplanes, boats and other motor vehicle's that create exhaust fumes, smog and smoke. Another cause of NOx are land fills which are caused by trash, people waste. And wild forest fire that are uncontrollable are another cause of NOx. It is also caused by volcanoes, wood stoves and fire places.NOx harms our environment by causing acid rain, global warming and the greenhouse affect. Acid rain harms thousands of lakes, rivers and streams worldwide, killing fish and other wild life. Global warming is an increase in the average temperature of the earth's surface. Greenhouse effect is a warming of a lower atmosphere and a surface of a planet that traps the sun's heat.
We can prevent NOx by riding buses, carpooling, and riding bikes instead of driving cars that pollute our environment. Another way we can prevent NOx is by buying less stuff that factory's make. We also can prevent NOx by recycling trash.
Hypothesis
We think there is 60% ppbday (parts per billion day) of nitrogen oxide in Hawaii's environment.
Procedure
Materials
Measuring Plate Color Sample
1. Open aluminum bag and take out measuring plate
2. Put it in a place where there is no rain, no direct sun light a little dust for 24 hours
3. Compare the color of the the measuring plate to the color sample. Choose the most similar color.
Data
We found out that there were 30 ppbday of NOx in Hawaii's environment.
Conclusion
In conclusion we have determined that Hawaii has a moderate amount of NOx compared to other states, Hawaii has a small amount of NOx. Our oringal hypothesis of 60 ppbday was wrong.home
