  • Federal SMART Grants

     

    The National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant or SMART Grant program provides grants up to $4,000 for each of the third and fourth academic years of study to needy (Federal Pell Grant recipients) U.S. Citizens who are pursuing a four-year degree with a major in one of the Physical or Life Sciences, Computer Science, or Mathematics.  

    To be eligible for the SMART Grant, you must meet the following criteria:

     

    • Be a U.S. Citizen;

     

    • Be a Federal Pell Grant recipient;

     

    • Be enrolled Full-Time;

     

    • Be majoring in Animal Sciences, Biology, Botany, Natural Sciences, Food Science, Computer Science, Nutritional Sciences, Astronomy, Foreign Languages, Mathematics, Physics, Meteorology, Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Science, Zoology, or Geology;

     

    • Have a UH Manoa cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0.  First time transfers must have at least a 3.0 transfer GPA;

     

    • Be enrolled in either the third or fourth academic year.  Third year students must have completed at least 60 credit hours but less than 89 credit hours.  Fourth year students must have completed at least 90 credit hours but less than 120 credit hours;

     

    • Be enrolled in at least one required course specific to the eligible major.  General Education courses do not count.
