Katipunan Magazine

mag

Founded in 1991, the Katipunan magazine is published every semester. It features students' writings in Filipino and English contributed by students taking Fililipino language, literature and culture classes at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Students from other UH campuses are also encouraged to submit their work for publication.

With the aim of promoting literacy among heritage and non-heritage learners of Filipino, Philippine literature and culture, students of the Filipino and Philippine Literature Program are enjoined to submit contributions to this bi-annual publication - the only one of its kind in the United States.

Voices from Hawai'i
Katipunan Literary Journal

Debuting in 1998, this bilingual (Filipino-English) literary journal is a venue for budding writers, poets and artists to have their voices heard and their art presented. Students throughout the University of Hawaii system as well as community members are welcome to turn in submissions for inclusion in the journal.

The first volume of Voices from Hawaii: Katipunan Literary Journal was published in 1998 in commemoration of the centennial of Philippine Independence. The second volume came out in 2001, celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the founding of the Katipunan Club at University of Hawaii-Manoa.

The third volume has now been published to honor the Sakadas and celebrate the 100 years of Filipino migration in Hawaii.

To recieve a copy of the journal, you may request and email Dr. Mabanglo at mabanglo@hawaii.edu.

Financial support for these projects have been provided by the Associated Students of the University of Hawaii (ASUH), Student Activities and Program Fee Board (SAPFB), and the Student Equity, Excellence and Diversity (SEED) Office.
