Alternative Health Insurance Plans for J-1 Exchange Visitors
If you are not eligible or decide not to enroll in the UH Student Health Insurance Plan, you and your J-2 dependents will need to enroll in an alternative health insurance plan that provides the minimum coverage meeting the Exchange Visitor Program requirements.
Please see the websites below for information on alternative health insurance plans. FSIS does not endorse or recommend any specific plan. You should examine the health insurance plans carefully to select one that meets both your needs as well as the Exchange Visitor requirements.
If you decide to purchase an alternative health insurance plan, be sure to confirm that the coverage provided by the plan meets the minimum Exchange Visitor Program requirements.
Alternative Health Insurance Plans:
- International Student Organization: COMPASS Silver/Gold, Voyager/ Voyager Elite, US NetCare Safety/Necessity
- Compass Benefits Group: Compass Budget, Compass Care, Compass Elite
- The Harbour Group: International Student & Scholar Medical Insurance Plan
Submit evidence of health insurance to FSIS
After you purchase the insurance, you must submit a signed Health Insurance Requirements Compliance Form to FSIS with an enrollment confirmation from the insurance provider/company that shows your name (and the name(s) of J-2 dependent(s)), the type of plan, and the dates of coverage.
Each time you renew/extend your health insurance plan, you must submit evidence of the new period of insurance coverage to FSIS.
