GRC Curriculum Project

GRC's Curriculum Project centers on a case study model planned for interactive use on the web.

The initial Overview of Globalization offers contesting explanations and definitions of just what the term "globalization" means, plus websites to examine each perspective in greater depth. Four separate case studies tell brief 3 to 5 page stories of people facing the consequences of global issues, such as poverty, labor conditions, human rights, environment, health, and international investments. The case studies result from a collaborative testing process involving high school seniors, college freshmen, and teachers of high school social studies and economics.

The GRC curriculum essentially presents a cafeteria of learning possibilities. The case study/critical thinking approach features help with questioning via The Good Thinkers Tool Kit, a resource for examining just about anything someone says or claims. Students and teachers will also find a list of pertinent globalization websites linked to terms in the text of the case studies, plus a glossary of terms.

To provide case studies for those without computers, the GRC has completed one short case study videotape centering on labor and health conditions in Thailand, and has another one in production.
