Master of Fine Arts Degree Requirements

All graduate students at UHM need to meet degree requirements set by the Graduate Division and their graduate programs. Below is an overview of general Graduate Division requirements for the MFA program. Graduate programs often have additional requirements, contact the program for details.

Total Credit Requirements

Generally, a minimum of 60 credits is required.

The MFA may be offered under either Plan A (thesis) or Plan B (non-thesis).

Credits for Courses numbered 600 or above A minimum of 30 credits must be for courses at the 600 level and above. All other courses must be at the 300 level and above.
Culminating Experience In general, a major performance, project or exhibition is required near the completion of the degree program.
