Other Faculty
Emeriti and Resigned Faculty
A graduate faculty member serving as either a member or chair of a thesis/dissertation committee at the time of retirement or resignation may continue to serve in that capacity until the student or the graduate program requests a change in committee composition.
Upon the recommendation of the graduate
chair and approval of the Graduate Division, emeriti faculty
may serve as a member or chair of a thesis/dissertation committee,
provided they were on the graduate faculty at the time of
retirement. These faculty must meet the criteria for continuance
on the graduate faculty, including criteria set by the Graduate
Division and the faculty's home graduate program.
Adjunct and Clinical Faculty
Due to the short-term nature of their appointments, adjunct
and clinical faculty are not normally considered as members
of the graduate faculty. If a graduate program wishes to appoint
such faculty to the graduate faculty, follow the procedures for the appointment of an affiliate graduate
faculty.
Visiting Faculty
Except in special circumstances and with the approval of the
Graduate Division, visiting faculty may not serve as official
members of a thesis or dissertation committee.
Non-Graduate Faculty
Except in special circumstances and with the approval of the
Graduate Division, faculty who are not members of the graduate
faculty may not prepare or evaluate qualifying and comprehensive
exams nor serve on thesis or dissertation committees.
