| Graduation
Conferral of Degrees
The University of Hawai'i confers degrees three times annually
in December, May, and August. Students who complete
all of their degree requirements at any time during the semester
may, upon written request, receive certification from the
Graduate Division that the degree will be conferred at the
end of the appropriate term, provided their records are clear
of all discrepancies.
Filing for Graduation
Students who plan to graduate need to file a Graduate
Application for Degree with the Graduate Records office, by the deadline specified in the Academic
Calendar. Note fees listed below:
- $30 graduation and diploma fee
- $21 binding fee for the thesis or dissertation (master's
plan A and doctoral students only)
Other Deadlines
In addition to filing the application for degree by the
appropriate deadline, students also need to observe deadlines
for the final examination and for the submission of thesis
or dissertation.
The various deadlines, the date of commencement and other
related information are published on the bulletin board outside
the Graduate Records Office, in the Academic
Calendar, and in the MyUH Web site.
Issuance of Diploma
Diplomas are issued by the Admissions and Records Office
two months after graduation. Students can also obtain a Hawaiian
language version of their degree. Inquiries regarding diplomas
should be addressed to the Admissions and Records Office,
not to the Graduate Records Office.
Postponing Graduation
Students who have completed all requirements for their degree
and who wish to postpone graduation to a later date may only
do so with sound academic reasons. These reasons must be verified
by the graduate chair. In general, such students are not eligible
for achievement scholarships or graduate assistantships and may not
enroll in Thesis 700 or Dissertation 800 during the additional
semester(s) or summer session(s).
