PBU Student
Definition
A Post-Baccalaureate Unclassified (PBU) student is one who holds a bachelor's degree
and who enrolls at UHM without seeking a specific degree. Unlike degree-seeking (classified) students, PBU students are not admitted to a specific degree program.
Academic Policies
Beginning in Fall 2008, PBU students will be governed by Graduate Division academic policies. However, they are exempt from policies involving academic progress and degree requirements. For questions about Graduate Division academic policies, contact the Graduate Records Office.
Academic Advising
There is no formal advising center for PBU students. PBU students who seek guidance on overall educational directions may contact the Assistant Graduate Dean. PBU students who are preparing to enter professional schools such as law, medicine or other health sciences may visit the Professions Advising Center, a walk-in resource center staffed by peer mentors.
Graduate Admission
A PBU student who subsequently decides to become
a degree-seeking graduate student at UHM needs to apply for graduate admission by following the admissions procedures
for prospective students.
Admission as a PBU student does not guarantee
subsequent admission as a degree-seeking graduate student.
PBU Credits
A PBU student who subsequently becomes admitted to a graduate degree program may apply PBU credits toward graduate degree requirements, subject to certain limitations. See Transfer / UHM PBU Credits for more information.
Graduate Student Organization Membership
PBU students are considered members of the Graduate Student Organization.
