Current Programs

The following types of graduate programs are offered at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa . For a list of current graduate programs at UHM, see List of Graduate Programs in the Graduate Division's Web site for prospective students.

Master's Degrees

Master's degrees are awarded for ‘mastering' an academic discipline or completing an advanced program of professional preparation.

Doctor of Philosophy
The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is the highest degree awarded by the University. It recognizes both the ability to carry out independent research and the completion of a scholarly academic program.

Graduate Certificates
Graduate certificates offer a distinct program of study and provide graduate students with a concentrated and intellectually coherent set of courses. Graduate certificates have two broad purposes: 1) to complement the education of students within disciplinary graduate programs; and 2) to provide the training necessary for professional certification.
