| Acknowledgement
The following are general guidelines concerning appropriate
acknowledgement of contributions in a thesis or dissertation:
- It is the responsibility of the student to document
and reference all sources of ideas and information.
- acknowledgement may be incorporated in either the
body or the footnote/endnote section of the manuscript.
- While contributions from others are allowed, the
student should remain the principal author of the
manuscript. For instance, a faculty adviser should
not contribute more than the student to a thesis or
dissertation.
- acknowledgement of the contribution from any individual
or group should include the name of the contributor
and a brief description of the nature of the contribution.
- Whenever possible, the wording of the acknowledgement
should be agreed upon in writing by the student and
the contributor(s), prior to submitting the manuscript
for publication.
- If monetary compensation is expected for the publication
of the manuscript, the student should inform the contributor(s)
accordingly. Distribution of the compensation should
be agreed upon in writing by the student and the contributor(s)
prior to publication.
