Program Overview

The Shidler College of Business at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa (UHM) offers a number of graduate programs that prepare students for business leadership in Hawai'i and the Pacific Basin. The primary emphases of the college are international business and business applications of advanced technology. Students receive a solid foundation, both theoretical and practical, in the structures, functions and objectives of business enterprise.

The Shidler College of Business is ranked in the top 25 among the nation's best graduate schools for international business by U.S. News & World Report. It is the only graduate school in Hawai'i accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) and is a member of the Graduate Management Admissions Council. Many of Hawai'i's top business leaders are graduates of the college.

Graduate students have access to personal computers in the college's three microcomputer labs. An extensive library of software for business applications and several research centers are also available. The UHM library offers a wealth of information to the students. The Asian Collection in Hamilton Library has a heavy concentration of statistical materials related to South and Southeast Asia. Business information on other Asian countries is also available in the collection. More than 175 databases can be searched for references.

Juris Doctorate/Master of Business Administration (JD/MBA)
The JD/MBA dual degree program is a powerful combination for those preparing to practice law in a corporate setting, to work for the government, or to manage a not-for-profit agency. The program requires a total of 122-128 credits. Prospective students should apply for admission first to the William S. Richardson School of Law. The first year of law school is prescribed curriculum; students are not allowed to take any courses outside of law school. For this reason, students should apply to the MBA program after matriculation into law school. The Shidler College of Business will accept LSAT scores in lieu of the required GMAT scores. Students in the joint degree program typically begin their business course work during the second or third year of law school. More info: mba@hawaii.edu
