The Department of Educational Administration at the University
of Hawai'i at Mānoa (UHM) offers graduate programs leading
to the MEd in educational administration for both lower (K-12)
and higher education, and to the PhD with a specialization
in educational administration. The department offers both
introductory courses and advanced seminars in the following
areas of study:
- theory, policies and practices, and principles of educational
administration;
- research;
- organizational theory and behavior; legal/financial factors;
and
- educational leadership and management (e.g., program planning
and management).
Students in the programs have the opportunity to study in
a multicultural setting that includes students from the Pacific
and Asia, as well as from private and public schools. The
department's focus on both higher and lower education provides
students the opportunity to explore a wide range of national
and international issues of importance to education and to
specialize in an area of interest.
Graduates typically work as educational administrators and
supervisors for a broad range of education-related administrative
positions, which include elementary and secondary school administrators,
higher education staff positions, and department and grade-level
chair at lower and higher education institutions.
