Program Overview

The Shidler College of Business at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa (UHM) offers a graduate certificate program in entrepreneurship. The program aims to support the following strategic initiatives of UHM:

  1. To promote research applications, commercialization of intellectual property rights, and entrepreneurship;
  2. To create employment opportunities for students both on campus and in the community; and
  3. To promote environmentally and culturally sensitive economic development in services, high technology, diversified agriculture, tourism, and other emerging sectors important to the continuous economic development of the State of Hawai'i.

Students enrolled in the program obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for starting a new business successfully, developing new technology commercially, or working in an entrepreneurial enterprise. While open to all current UHM graduate students, the program is of particular relevance to students in business, law, science and engineering. The program culminates in either a consulting practicum or an internship, which may involve either a start-up firm or a new venture by an existing firm.
