Program Overview

The Department of Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa (UHM) offers graduate programs leading to the MS in kinesiology and rehabilitation science and the PhD in education (specialization kinesiology and rehabilitation science). Also available is a post-baccalaureate teaching certificate in physical education.

The MS program is available in four tracks: Entry-level athletic training or advanced athletic training, and physical education or adaptive physical education. The athletic training tracks consist of advanced studies of scientific techniques designed to enhance athletic performance and coaching techniques. Furthermore, the entry-level track prepares students to become Board of Certification Certified Athletic Trainers, or medical professionals who specialize in the prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of sports injuries. The physical education tracks focus on methodology for teaching physical education. For studies at the doctoral level, available tracks include adapted physical education and sports medicine/exercise science.

Graduates pursue careers in athletic training, physical education, personal training and fitness, rehabilitation counseling, and allied health professions such as physical therapy and sports medicine.
