Applicants need to meet:

standard and documentation
requirements, and
2) program specific admissions criteria and documentation requirements

- MLISc degree from an ALA-accredited library science program
or equivalent course work*
- computer literacy
- graduate program supplemental information form (download
form)
- statement of objectives** (download
form)
- two letters of recommendation
- interview (Recommended for applicants residing in Hawai'i.)
- official GRE General Test scores (recommended)
- official TOEFL scores — 600/250/100 or above (Required
of most non-native speakers of English. Click here
for information on exemptions.)
* For those electing the School Library/Media Specialist
focus, a graduate degree (equivalent to the master's level at UHM) with 24 graduate credits or more
in library science will be considered as equivalent. Current
MLISc students at UHM in their final semester of study are also
eligible to apply, provided that they are able to take courses
beyond the MLISc degree requirements.

Submission of Program
Specific Documentation Requirements
With the exception of TOEFL and GRE scores, all program specific documentation requirements should be sent directly
to the graduate certificate program.
If required, official TOEFL and GRE scores should be sent to the Graduate Admissions Office. Please note that GRE scores may be required by the graduate certificate program (see above) or by the Graduate Division (more info.)

Overview |

The Department of Library and Information Science at the
University of Hawai'i at Mānoa offers a graduate certificate
in advanced library and information science (CALIS). The certificate
program is available in two options.
Option A is available for applicants who complete a successful,
coherent program of specialized study and research beyond
the MLISc degree. Applicants may choose one of the two specializations:
- application of computer and information technologies to
information environments, and
- extension of information management skills in information
system design, evaluation, and the development of user services.
Option B focuses on school librarianship. Applicants may
choose one of the two specializations:
- application of computer and information science technologies
in elementary and secondary school libraries,
- extension of curriculum-planning skills in information
literacy and general literacy instruction.

Requirements |

Students
enrolled in graduate certificate programs at UHM need to meet
certificate requirements set by the Graduate Division and
their certificate programs. For general Graduate Division

Requirements < Graduate Certificate. Below are requirements
specific to this certificate program. |

This certificate program requires 15 credits.
Students must complete all certificate requirements within
five years of the date of admission.
