Program Overview

The Department of Molecular Biosciences and Bioengineering (MBBE) at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa (UHM) offers graduate programs leading to the MS and the PhD. The programs center around understanding the biochemical, nutritional, and molecular-biological processes that underlie growth, development, photosynthesis, and stress, especially as related to tropical agriculture, aquaculture, plant and environmental biotechnology, and bioengineering.

The combination of Hawai'i's tropical locale, the importance of agriculture in the economy of this region, and the strong basic orientation of the departmental faculty offers unique interdisciplinary research and educational opportunities, which range from molecular biology and biochemistry to agricultural biotechnology and bioengineering. The programs stress solid foundation in fundamentals, competence in contemporary methods, and significant research contributions to plant biology, environmental biochemistry and tropical agricultural biotechnology.

Degree Requirements

All graduate students at UHM need to meet degree requirements set by the Graduate Division and their graduate programs. For general Graduate Division requirements, see Degree Requirements. Below is an overview of the degree requirements for this graduate program.
