Admissions Requirements
 

This graduate certificate program accepts applications ONLY from current degree-seeking graduate students at UHM.

To apply for admission, submit a completed Concurrent Graduate Certificate Application (download form) and application fee to the Graduate Admissions Office.

 
  • letter of interest (Indicate academic objectives, Pacific-related interests, and proposed course of study in primary graduate program.)
 

Submission of Program Specific Documentation Requirements
With the exception of TOEFL and GRE scores, all program specific documentation requirements should be sent directly to the graduate certificate program.

If required, official TOEFL and GRE scores should be sent to the Graduate Admissions Office. Please note that GRE scores may be required by the graduate program (see above) or by the Graduate Division (more info.)

 
 
Program Overview
 

The Center for Pacific Islands Studies at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa (UHM) offers a graduate certificate program in Pacific Islands studies. The program is designed for current degree-seeking graduate students at UHM whose primary course of study includes a substantial component of Pacific-related courses and research. The objective of the certificate program is to provide recognition of this expertise and to encourage further study in the Pacific region.

Certificate Requirements
 

Students enrolled in graduate certificate programs at UHM need to meet certificate requirements set by the Graduate Division and their certificate programs. For general Graduate Division requirements, see Degree Requirements < Graduate Certificate. Below are requirements specific to this certificate program.

 

Students pursuing the graduate certificate are required to complete at least one of the MA core courses and to pass the MA written exam. They may select one of the following options.

  • 18 credits of Pacific-related course work, or
  • 12 credits of Pacific-related course work, and a Pacific-related thesis or dissertation.
