The University of Hawai'i at Mānoa (UHM) offers a graduate
certificate program in telecommunication information resource
management (TIRM). The program targets
individuals who have experience and/or current responsibilities
in communication and information or new media technologies
and services, and who have demonstrated leadership or leadership
potential in the management of communication and information
resources. Participants in the program broaden their understanding
of policy, program and management issues in information and
communication technology, information resources and new media.
The program is intended to be completed
within a 10-month period. Each course offered is mediated
by a knowledgeable faculty member and enhanced by visiting
lecturers from various fields and professions. Group projects
and activities focus on the background and experience of the
students. The program utilizes a variety of learning formats,
including Web-cast video lectures, chat room and bulletin
board discussions, Web-based case analysis/exercises, individual
and networked class projects, as well as World Wide Web research,
development and learning exercises.
Minimum Technical Requirements
Organized through an eCourse management system, the program
has both asynchronous and synchronous elements. In order to
participate in the program, students must have:
- Personal access to a computer capable of running Netscape
(4.76, 6.2.3) or Explorer (5.5 SP2, 6). Real Player/QuickTime
will be employed in selected class sessions.
- High-speed network access from personal computer; and,
- Access to an H.323 video teleconferencing system or a
Webcam, microphone, and appropriate video teleconferencing
software.
