Admissions Requirements
 
Prospective Students

1) Graduate Division admissions standard and documentation requirements, and
2) program specific admissions criteria and documentation requirements
    (see below).
 
  • appropriate course work in descriptive and inferential statistics, or acquisition of such background prior to enrollment in PLAN 601 and PLAN 605*
  • professional experience (3 years)
  • graduate program supplemental information form (download form)
  • statement of objectives (download form)
  • two letters of recommendation
  • interview (Highly recommended for applicants residing in Hawai'i.)
  • official GRE General Test scores
  • official TOEFL scores — 500/173/61 or above (Required of most non-native speakers of English. Click here for information on exemptions.)

* Applicants with course deficiencies who are otherwise qualified may be admitted. They must make up the deficiencies before they may be advanced to candidacy.

 

Submission of Program Specific Documentation Requirements
With the exception of TOEFL and GRE scores, all program specific documentation requirements should be sent directly to the graduate certificate program.

If required, official TOEFL and GRE scores should be sent to the Graduate Admissions Office. Please note that GRE scores may be required by the graduate certificate program (see above) or by the Graduate Division (more info.)

To apply for admission, submit a completed Concurrent Graduate Certificate Application (download form) and application fee to the Graduate Admissions Office.
 
 
 
Program Overview
 

The Department of Urban and Regional Planning (URP) at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa (UHM) offers a professional certificate program in URP. The program is designed for practicing planners who are eligible for admission to the master's program but who do not have sufficient time to complete the two-year curriculum. Students may specialize in one of the following areas:

  • community planning and social policy,
  • environmental planning,
  • land use and infrastructure planning, or
  • urban and regional planning in Asia and the Pacific.

Certificate Requirements
 

Students enrolled in graduate certificate programs at UHM need to meet certificate requirements set by the Graduate Division and their certificate programs. For general Graduate Division requirements, see Degree Requirements < Graduate Certificate. Below are requirements specific to this certificate program.

 

This certificate program requires 18 credits.
