About the HACRP and Its Units

Hawaii AIDS Clinical Research Program

About Us: Our Functions

Education: The HACRP staff participate in the University of Hawaii and community presentations through organizations such as the AIDS Education Project. Medical students and residents routinely rotate through the Clint Spencer Clinic to learn about HIV-1 care and management. Undergraduate and graduate students as well as medical students and residents also spend time within our program to learn about conducting research in HIV-1. A summer undergraduate program is provided annually.

Research:  HACRP participates in clinical research supported by a variety of sources. Funding from the National Institutes of Health support the HACTU, NeuroAIDS SNRP and other research initiatives within HACRP. Additional research is supported by private foundations or companies. HACRP also participates in clinical trials sponsored by various pharmaceutical companies.

Service:  HACRP functions as a general HIV-1 information resource for many groups within and outside the University of Hawaii. Consultative HIV-1 care in many difficult medical issues such as lipodystrophy and HIV-1 resistance is provided within the Clint Spencer Clinic. Patients are seen for research participation in collaboration with the Clint Spencer Clinic.
