Welcome to the Hawaii
Center for AIDS (HiCFA), formerly known as: Hawaii AIDS Clinical Research
Program (HACRP), website. We are part of the University of Hawaii John A.
Burns School of Medicine. The HiCFA is an academic program in HIV with
clinical, translational and laboratory research studies in HIV and a clinic
providing care to HIV infected patients. HiCFA includes the Hawaii AIDS
Clinical Trials Unit (HACTU), the Hawaii NeuroAIDS Research Program, the
Hawaii HIV Immunobiology and Vaccine Laboratory (HHIVL), Molecular
Medicine and Infectious Diseases Laboratory (MMID), and the Clint Spencer Clinic. HiCFA also conducts HIV research
and training in SE Asia as a primary partner of the South East Asia Research Collaboration
with Hawaii (SEARCH). We emphasize education, research, and service.
Our mission is to:
- Develop clinical research capabilities to evaluate
optimal therapies for HIV-1 infection and AIDS-associated complications
- Provide access to clinical research, trials, and
studies for all HIV-1 infected patients in Hawaii
- Facilitate
the transfer of research findings to clinical care which will ultimately
improve the quality of life for patients with HIV-1 infection
- Care for HIV-1-infected patients through the Clint
Spencer Clinic, a resource for Hawaii's population
