Dr. Aaron McMurtray is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, at the University of Hawaii, Manoa,John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM). He is the staff neurologist and Co-Investigator for the Hawaii AIDS Clinical Research Program.

He completed medical school at Vanderbilt University and Neurology Residency at Los Angeles County Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.  He subsequently studied Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry at the West Los Angeles Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center and the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr. McMurtray received his Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Hawaii in 2008.

 

Research Interests

Dr. McMurtray’s research and academic interests include complications of HIV-1 and antiretroviral therapy on the nervous system and particularly effects on the brain related to cognitive impairment and dementia. Dr. McMurtray's research is funded in part by the American Academy of Neurology.
