Encrypted Access to mail.hawaii.edu (POP/IMAP services), uhunix2.its.hawaii.edu, webedit.its.hawaii.edu, and www2.hawaii.edu.
This page will cover the applications affected by the January 27, 2004, 7:30am and February 3, 2004, 7:30am conversion dates. Effective January 27, 2004, 7:30am, ITS will be requiring secured telnet and ftp access to uhunix2.its.hawaii.edu, webedit.its.hawaii.edu, and www2.hawaii.edu. Effective February 3, 2004, 7:30am, ITS will be requiring secured access to POP/IMAP services on mail.hawaii.edu. Please see below to see if changes to your software is necessary. For more details regarding the SSH SSL implementation project, please visit http://www.hawaii.edu/help/security/ssh. Other servers are NOT affected on these conversion dates. 1. Do you use QVT Term to connect to uhunix2.its.hawaii.edu or webedit.its.hawaii.edu?
You will not be able to connect after January 27, 2004, 7:30am.
To connect after January 27, 2004, 7:30am, please download and install SSH 3.29.

2. Do you use the run command in Windows and type telnet to connect to uhunix2.its.hawaii.edu, webedit.its.hawaii.edu, or www2.hawaii.edu?
You will not be able to connect after January 27, 2004, 7:30am
To connect after January 27, 2004, 7:30am, please download and install SSH 3.29.

3. Do you use NCSA Telnet to connect to uhunix2.its.hawaii.edu or webedit.its.hawaii.edu?
You will not be able to connect after January 27, 2004, 7:30am.
If you are using Mac OS 9.x and below, please download and install MacSSH 2.1fc3. Installation instructions can be found in PDF format at http://www.hawaii.edu/itsdocs/mac/macssh.pdf.
If you use Mac OS 10.2.x and above, please download and install iTerm. Installation instructions can be found in PDF format at http://www.hawaii.edu/itsdocs/mac/iterm.pdf.
4. Do you use WS FTP LE to transfer files with uhunix2.its.hawaii.edu, webedit.its.hawaii.edu, or www2.hawaii.edu?
You will not be able to connect after January 27, 2004, 7:30am.
To connect after January 27, 2004, 7:30am, please download and install SSH 3.29. SSH includes a file transfer protocl.

5. Do you use Fetch to transfer files with uhunix2.its.hawaii.edu, webedit.its.hawaii.edu, or www2.hawaii.edu?
You will not be able to connect after January 27, 2004, 7:30am.
If you are using Mac OS 9.x and below, please download and install MacsFTP. Installation instructions can be found in PDF format at http://www.hawaii.edu/itsdocs/mac/sftp.pdf.
If you are using Mac OS 10.x - 10.1, please download and install Fugu. Installation instructions can be found in PDF form at http://www.hawaii.edu/itsdocs/mac/fugu.pdf.
If you are using Mac OS X 10.2.3 or later, please download and install Fugu 1.1. Installation instructions can be found in PDF form at http://www.hawaii.edu/itsdocs/mac/fugu.pdf.
6. Do you use FrontPage to transfer your web pages to uhunix2.its.hawaii,edu, webedit.its.hawaii.edu, or www2.hawaii.edu?
During our tests, we were successful in tunneling only FrontPage 2003 to uhunix2.its.hawaii.eduInstructions for tunneling Frontpage 2003 through a SSH tunnel can be found at http://www.hawaii.edu/help/support/frontpage.html.
7. Do you use Dreamweaver to transfer your web pages to uhunix2.its.hawaii.edu, webedit.its.hawaii.edu, or www2.hawaii.edu?
If you are using Dreamweaver MX 2004, then you may continue to use this program by enable the secure file transfer option.
If you are using versions of Dreamweaver prior to Dreamweaver MX 2004, you will need to create a SSH tunnel to continue to use Dreamweaver. Instructions for creating a SSH tunnel can be found at http://www.hawaii.edu/help/support/dreamweaver.html.
8. Do you use Web Mail (https://mail.hawaii.edu)?
Your access to your email is not affected. You will be able connect after February 3, 2004, 7:30am without interruption. Note: Web Mail does not work with Internet Explorer 5.2.3 for Mac OS X and Internet Explorer 5.1.7 for Mac OS 9.
9. Do you use MyUH Email (https://myuhportal.hawaii.edu)?
Your access to your email is not affected. You will be able connect after February 3, 2004, 7:30am without interruption.
10. Do you use Eudora?
Versions prior to Eudora 5.21 do not work properly with SSL. Please upgrade to 5.21. Please backup your email data before upgrading. Information on how to backup your email data can be found at http://www.hawaii.edu/itsdocs/quota.
You may have to reconfigure your Eudora 5.21 application.
To configure Eudora 5.21 for encrypted access on Windows based computers:
1. Start Eudora.
2. Click on the "Tools" menu and select "Options."
3. In the Category pane, click on "Checking Mail."
4. In the right pane, under "Secure Sockets when Receiving," if you have an IMAP connection, select "Required, Alternate Port." If you have a POP connection, please select "Required, Alternate Port."
5. In the Category pane, select "Sending Mail."
6. In the right pane, under "Secure Sockets when Sending," for both IMAP/POP connection, select "Required, Alternate Port."
7. Click "OK."
To configure Eudora 5.21 for encrypted access on Macintosh computers:
1. Start Eudora.
2. Click on the "Special" menu and select "Settings..."
3. In the left pane, scroll down and select "SSL."
4. In the right pane, choose the personality you would like to change. NOTE: If you have more than one personality, you will need to do the following for each personality.
5. For "SSL for POP," select "Required (Alternate Port)." For "SSL for SMTP," select "Required (Alternate Port)." For "SSL for IMAP," select "Required (Alternate Port)."
6. Click on "OK" to save and close your changes.
NOTE:- Mac OS 8.6 users need to upgrade to Mac OS 9 or switch to Web Mail.
- Eudora does not have SSL support for Macintoshes using Mac OS X 10.0 and OS X 10.1. Please upgrade to Mac OS X 10.2. Pricing information is available from the UH Bookstore.
11. Do you use MS Outlook 2002 or later?
You may have to reconfigure your MS Outlook application.
To configure MS Outlook for encrypted access:
1. Start MS Outlook.
2. Click on the "Tools" menu and select "E-mail Accounts."
3. Select "View or change existing e-mail accounts."
4. Click on "Next."
5. Highlight the email account you would to edit.
6. Click on "Change..."
7. Click on "More Settings..."
8. Click on the "Advanced" tab.
9. Please make sure there is a check next to "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" for both the Incoming and Outgoing server.
10. Please enter 465 in the box for the Outgoing Server (SMTP).
11. Click on "OK."
12. Click on "Next."
13. Click on "Finish" to save and close this window.
12. Do you use MS Outlook Express?
You may have to reconfigure your MS Outlook Express application.
To configure MS Outlook Express encrypted access on Windows based computers:
1. Start MS Outlook Express.
2. Click on the "Tools" menu and select "Accounts."
3. Click on the "Mail" tab.
4. Select your email account and click on "Properties."
5. Click on the "Advanced" tab.
6. Please make sure there is a check next to "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" for both the Incoming and Outgoing server.
7. Please enter 465 in the box for the Outgoing Server (SMTP).
8. Click on "OK."
9. Click on "Close" to save and close the window.
To configure MS Outlook Express for encrypted access on Macintosh computers:
1. Start MS Outlook Express.
2. Click on the "Tools" menu and select "Accounts."
3. On the Mail tab, click the account.
4. Click on "Edit."
5. On the Account Settings tab, under the "Receiving mail" section, click "Click here for advanced receiving options."
6. Click on the "This POP/IMAP service requires a secure connection (SSL)."
7. On the Account Settings tab, under the "Sending mail" section, click "Click here for advanced sending options."
8. Click on the "This SMTP service requires a secure connection (SSL)."
9. Click on the "Override default SMTP port.
10. Enter 465 in the Override default SMTP port.
11. Click on "OK" to close and save your settings.
13. Do you use pine?
Pine is not affected. However, please verify which Telnet application you are using to connect to the uhunix2.its.hawaii.edu system. If you are SSH, MacSSH, or iTerm then you are not affected.
14. Do you use Netscape Messenger?
Netscape 4.7x does not support SSL connections for POP. Please upgrade to Netscape 6.23 or switch to a different email client.
Netscape 7.1 does not work when SSL is enabled for SMTP.
You may have to reconfigure your Netscape Messenger application.
To configure Netscape Messenger for encrypted access on Windows computers:
1. Start Netscape Messenger.
2. Click on the "Edit" menu and select "Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings.."
3. Under your email account, click on "Server Settings."
4. In the right pane, enable "Use Secure connection (SSL)."
5. In the left pane, click on "Outgoing Server (SMTP)."
6. In the right pane, under "Use secure connection (SSL)," select "Always."
7. Click on "OK" to close and save.
To configure Netscape Messenger for encrypted access on Macintosh computers:
1. Start Netscape Messenger.
2. Click on the "Edit" menu and select "Mail & Newsgroups: Account Settings..."
3. Under each email account, select "Server Settings."
4. In the right pane, please verify that "Use secure connection (SSL)" option is enabled.
5. In the left pane, scroll down and select "Outgoing Server (SMTP)."
6. In the right pane, under "Use secure connection (SSL)" verify that "Always" is selected.
7. Click on "OK" to close and save your settings.
