Valere McFarland is the Acting Director of the Hawaii Educational Policy Center at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa. Dr. McFarland holds the University of Hawai‘i College of Education’s first Ph.D. in Policy Studies. Her dissertation was a longitudinal policy analysis of the political and cultural influences on teacher certification, licensure and out-of-field placement in Hawai‘i. While she completed her dissertation studies, she administered the Educational Leadership in the Asia/Pacific Master’s Degree Program for the Department of Educational Foundations. Dr. McFarland has worked overseas on development projects, including assignments with the Ministry of Education in TanJin, South Korea, where she established a teaching program for middle and high school English teachers and Hokkaido, Japan, where she taught comparative education courses at Hokusei Women’s College in Sapporo and Hokkaido Teachers College in Aino Sato. |
