The Hawaii Educational Research Association (HERA) provides a forum for sharing issues, insights, and research findings with educational researchers, administrators, teachers, and others who want to improve educational practice. Through its annual conference, publications, and periodic forums, HERA is a source of information for concerned educators in Hawaii. HERA also sponsors the
Pacific Educational Research Journal , a refereed journal published annually.Distinguished Paper
HERA members are encouraged to submit their research for HERA's Distinguished Paper Award. Submissions for 2009 are due by midnight, November 21, 2008 to herainfo@hawaii.edu. The award winner is announced at the annual conference and receives an honorarium as well as the opportunity to present at the
American Educational Research Association , of which HERA is a regional affiliate.Periodic Forums
HERA independently and with other educational organizations periodically sponsors forums featuring prominent educators visiting Hawaii. Past speakers include David Berliner, Maxine Greene, Eva Baker, Michael Scriven and, most recently, Blaine Worthen.
Annual Conference
HERA presents an annual conference at the beginning of each calendar year. The 31st Annual HERA Conference is scheduled for Saturday, February 7, 2009 at the University of Hawaii at Manoa's Campus Center. Proposals are due November 21, 2008.
The 30th Annual HERA Conference was January 26, 2008 and featured 2 invited keynote speakers as well as symposia and paper presentations. Invited speakers were Yvonne Chan, Principal of the Vaughn Next Century Learning Center and Ku Kahakalau, founder and President of the Kanu o ka ‘Aina Learning ‘Ohana.

Membership
Annual membership in HERA costs $15 for professionals and $10 for full-time students. Members receive calls for papers for the annual conference, notices about speakers, a subscription to the Pacific Educational Research Journal, and announcements about important educational events in Hawaii and the Pacific.
