When I was young, I remember enjoying our weekly outings to the beach. My favorite beach was Poipu Beach.
I remember going to the zoo at Coco Palms (which is nothing like the Honolulu Zoo). There are only 5 or so cages with different animals including monkeys, donkeys, and peacocks. Prior to going to the zoo, we went to a place (I don't remember where) to pick grass to feed the donkeys.
I remember traveling to Maui to visit my Aunt. Again, we would head to the beach, Kamaole 3. This was my favorite beach on Maui! After the beach we would stop at Azeka's for shave ice.

I remember when I would go to Chinatown with my grandfather and the butcher would cut up pieces of char siu and roast pork to taste.
I also remember being in Kauai and having bon fires on the beach. We would roast marshmallows.
Cynthia Matsui
I remember when the manapua man would come to Japanese school. The music from his van would be our signal that he was coming. We would all run to his van with coins in our hand. I'd always buy at least a rice cake and soda.
Stephanie Kamakeeaina
I remember when I used to get old fashioned crackseed from the jar at Yamane's in the old farmers market.
I remember when I used to pop the wool roses in the stream that flows on Alewa Heights.
I remember when Ala Moana Shopping Center was really a big pile of coral pieces.
Janice Nishiki
I remember when we used to load the entire family (2 + 4 kids) in my Dad's tan 4 door Chevy to go over the Pali's winding old roads to get to the beautiful beaches on the Windward side. It was like a roller coaster ride and we often wondered if we would slip over the edge if we got too close, especially on a rainy day.
Nancy Chen
I remember when it cost 3 cents to mail a letter.
I remember when Elvis was controverisal and parents were aghast at his music.
Dean Hamane
I remember when we used to play outside until 7:00 pm. It was so dark and we would get in trouble. I would never allow my kids to do this nowadays. Eating li hing mui and lemon. Drinking bottle soda and poking a hole on the top and saving it all day long until the soda was flat. (Farrell's Shakey's pizza, the smell of my grandpa's furo!)
Maxine Asato
I remember when Icee was 25$ and the Icee Bear would come to Ishigo Store and give away prizes for diamond coupons (on the side of the cups).
I used to play and slide down the dirt hills on my father's cane field.
I played football, baseball, jin jolly with my brothers and neigborhood kids.
Swimming in the river, fishing for aholehole, squirel fish, hinalea, at One`kahakala Beach.
