Introduce Habitats and the Ecosystem |
| Discuss: the components of a habitat. Students can locate and differentiate habitats around the world. Possible discussions can include analyzing and explaining the distributions of habitats, their functions, the flora and fauna in the habitat, and causes and effects of habitat loss. | Discuss what is happening in Hawaii and the rest of the world that may affect our habitats. Just for fun, test yourself to see how much you know about the Pacific Golden Plover. | |

Wear a Habitat-Related T-Shirt |
| Students can explain what habitat their t-shirt relates to | |
| "Give a Hand to Our Habitat" | |
| ie. conduct conservation projects in the community; clean the school grounds; plant a native tree; adopt a koa tree | |

Habitat Literature Day or School's Choice |
| Read books that deal with different habitats. Students can access the WWW for information on different habitats. Information can be shared through writings (poetry, essays, books, etc.) | |

FRIDAY (Nov. 21) |
Habitat Hat Day |

Using a variety of materials (scrap) found, students will replicate a habitat on a hat. (The hat can be made out of paper, paper plate, etc. Or, follow the directions for a painter's hat illustrated by Sharon Asato.) Habitat Hats can be shared through visitations, parades, displays, etc.
Optional: Turn your classrooms into a habitat and have your students visit other classroom habitats. Or, create mini habitats in different parts of the school building. i.e., a corner in the library, parts of the cafeteria, a corner of the classroom |
