Fraser, Mary Ann. Ten Mile Day and the Building of the Transcontinental Railroad. Henry Holt and Company, 1993. Author Mary Ann Fraser retraced the route of the crews, examined their tools , and researched every minute of the world record of laying ten miles of track in a single day. With the building of the transcontinental railroad, the east and west were now linked with an iron trail.
Freeman, Marcia S. Going to the City. "Big Book" Part of the "People, Spaces, and Places" Series. Rand McNally, 1999. The book describes going to the city from a rural area. Students will be able to compare the country from the city. Students can also compare the similaritiesa and differences of transportation and other technology in both places.
Gaff, Jackie. Tell Me About Buildings Bridges & Tunnels. Warwick Press, 1991. The book uses question and answer format with pictures to explain elements and principles of the structures, the design, and construction of bridges, tunnels, and buildings. It describes the Seven Wonders and other wel-known buildings, bridges, and tunnels. Students can easily link the examples to technology.
Linney, Marie. Things That Go! Newbridge Communications, Inc, 1996. The Big Book shows different kinds of transportation. Students will be able to discuss when each type of transportation can be used in terms of time and distance, air vs. water and land, etc.

Davis, Gary W. Working at a TV Station. Children's Press, 1998. Describes the various kinds of career opportunities found at a television station.
Frazier, Deneen. Internet for Kids, 2nd ed. Sybex Inc., 1996. Includes hands-on and minds-on projects for the global classroom. Packed with fun projects and great ideas for using the Internet to explore the world.
Goldstone, Bruce and Arthur Perley. Kids' Guide to the Internet. Troll Communications L.L.C, 1996. The Kids' Guide to the Internet is your driver's manual to the information super highway. You'll master the Internet, discover how to send E-mail, find out about the World Wide Web, play fun games, join a kids' chat group, and learn lots of other totally cool stuff.
