Did you know?
Lake Chiemsee is located in the German state of Bavaria (Bayern). It is the states largest lake and is known as the Bavarian Sea. It is surrounded by reedy flatlands but the nearby mountains offer a breathtaking backdrop. There are two islands in Lake Chiemsee called Frauenchiemsee (or Fraueninsel) and Herrenchiemsee (or Herreninsel). These islands are the main attractions of the lake.
The lake was once a glacier basin and covers 82 square kilometers or 32 square miles. The lake is big enough to create good winds off the nearby Alps. Sailing and windsurfing can be quite exciting here.
Additional Information:
Fraueninsel is the smaller of Lake Chiemsees two major islands. On this island is a fishing village. Boats from this village will drag the lake for salmon and pike. An active Benedictine nunnery, founded in 782 can also be found here. The convent is well-known for producing an agreeable stomach elixir. It is a liqueur called Kloster Likor.

Though Germany is a densely populated country, they keep a sense of openness by building their houses close together. Garden plots and fields are outside of the town.
