ZIPLOCKS
a. Prepare bags of clues ahead of time. Collect pictures and statements of a country, city, region, or place. Use cultural symbols, landmarks including unique physical features like Diamond Head, and other images that represent a city, country, region, etc. Pictures and cards with statements can be laminated for durability. Place each set in a separate ziplock bag. Label each bag with a letter. Label each picture and card with the corresponding letter and a number.
b. To play the "game," the students work in teams. Place the ziplock bags in a central place. One member from each team goes to the pile to take a bag. Return to the team. Open the bag. Decide where the pictures/statements represent. Students keep track by writing the name of the city or country on paper. Be sure that the name corresponds with the label on the bag. When the teams have figured out the clues in a bag, they need to close the bags, return them to the pile, and take another bag back to the team. It is important to have the bags closed or partially closed to avoid the pictures from falling out.
Example: There are 20 sets of bags containing different countries, states, and cities. Each bag is labeled from A - T. Hawaii happens to be bag letter "A." The student writes "Hawaii" next to letter "A" on the team's sheet of paper. What clues are included in the bag? Pictures of A-l "Diamond Head," A-2 "Kilauea Iki," A-3 "Merry Monarch," A-4 "City lights of Waikiki," A-5 "Kona Sunset,"
A-6 "Arizona Memorial," A-7 "People walking in China Town."
Note: Magazines, travel brochures, personal pictures, postcards, and calendars serve as wonderful resources. When pictures are not available, statements can be written on cards. Or, you could add both pictures and statements.
