Winter in Askole lasts for approximately four months. During these cold months, residents spend more time indoors. Askole houses are split into three levels and seasonal living areas: the rooftops, pictured above; the Balti, a partially open kitchen area; and the Katsa, a subterranean level where they sleep and cook during the winter.
