HGA | Bee Index

General Information:

The National Geographic Bee is a nationwide contest for schools with any grades four through eight. It is an educational outreach program of the National Geographic Society. The contest is designed to encourage teachers to include geography in their classrooms, spark student interest in the subject, and increase public awareness about geography. Students from schools in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Pacific Territories, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Department of Defense Dependents Schools take part in the Bee.

Schools with students in grades 4-8 in the United States are eligible to participate in this annual competition. Principals can find out how to register their schools by going to: National Geographic Bee.

Schools that register by the deadline to conduct a school level Bee receive all of the contest materials and information they need. The school contest, with a minimum of six students participating, produces one school winner. That one school Bee winner takes a qualifying test to determine the top 100 scoring students in each state who are invited to the state level Bees. The winner of the Hawai'i Bee represents Hawai'i at the national finals in Washington, D.C. Check with your school to see if they participate in this annual event.
