History Department Scholarships
Ishi Sakurai Scholarship
The History Department at the University of Hawaii at Manoa offers the annual Ishi Sakurai Scholarships for two (2) undergraduate History majors with a concentration in Asian History.
Scholarship Benefits (last year's award, subject to change):
- $2,150 per semester
- Up to $4,300 per year (Fall and Spring semesters)
- Renewable for a second year (Fall 2008-2009) upon submission of a written request in April 2008 and if qualifications are met
Qualifications:
- Full-time undergraduate student (carrying 12 or more credits)
- Junior or senior (earned 48 semester-credit hours or more)
- Declared History major, with concentration in Asian History
- Overall GPA of 3.0
To apply, submit:
- Original academic transcript
- Two current letters of recommendation reflecting applicant’s performance in History classes
- Brief statement (maximum one typed page) of applicant’s interest in Asian History and the need for the scholarship
