The Hawai‘i Internet Exchange is an Internet exchange point managed and funded by the University of Hawai‘i Information Technology Services to provide a way to keep local Hawai‘i Internet traffic local to the state.
Since its inception in 1995, the HIX has grown to two peering points and its capacity increased to Gigabit Ethernet speeds.
Membership in the HIX is free and open to all service providers in the State of Hawai`i as long as the HIX requirements are met. Certain restrictions exist to ensure that the original purpose of the HIX is maintained.
