What is the Introduction
to Clinical Medicine Special Interest Group ?
The
ICM SIG is a forum for directors, teachers and coordinators of medical
school courses, and other interested individuals, with interests in the
teaching, learning and perfecting and evaluation of clinical skills (to
include the knowledge base, interpersonal, social, professional, intellectual
and technical skills needed in data gathering, evaluating, and problem
solving which will lead to optimal patient care).
Although traditional Introduction to Clinical Medicine courses have changed
their names and their positions within the curriculum and are looking a
lot different, the focus on learning and evaluating basic clinical skill
remains; we have chosen to continue the name for the time being.
The group is interdisciplinary
in nature, and affords a unique opportunity for most of its members to
share innovative ideas, concerns, successes and learning opportunities.
It is created and meets under the auspices of the Association of American
Medical Colleges (AAMC) and the Group on Educational Affairs (GEA).
This website will serve as an online networking source between programs and educators interested in curriculum successes and learning opportunities (never are there failures in what we do, unless we fail to learn!). It will contain links to home pages for programs, as they become available, and will be a directory for any program or individual who wishes to share or participate in the network for educational purposes.
This Page contains a DIRECTORY of some programs that have submitted the information to be listed. We encourage others to submit and update information to form a useful database of courses addressing clinical skills in Medical Schools.
