Learning words from cards: some guidelines

  • The SEA Site Indonesia of Northern Illinois University provides a wealth of excellent language resources. Many of those are accessible under 'Themes', 'Readings', and 'Grammar'. Many Grammar handouts and Exercises for all levels are in the Indonesian Course Homepage.
  • Indonesian in 7 days A useful short course for novices.
  • Beginning Indonesian has a wealth of interactive exercises, especially suitable for Year 1 students.
  • Go Indonesia provides students with a fully interactive introduction to five major islands in Indonesia. Each of the five sections is based on an island and contains four areas covering the arts, English, studies of society and the environment. Hidden information, fact files, quiz activities, photographs and a large number of off-screen activity sheets make this a valuable resource. Students can access the Indonesian language section and test their comprehension at their own pace.
  • Asosiasi Pengajar Bahasa Indonesia Bagi Penutur Asing This is the official site of the Asosiasi Pengajar Bahasa Indonesia (for teachers only)
  • Essay Writing UH students enrolled in Level 3 and 4 Indonesian are required to write essays in Indonesian. How to write a good essay? Check out our Essay Writing Page with many useful links.
  • Warung Kopi Practice your Indonesian by subscribing to Warung Kopi - a conversation group for English speakers learning Indonesian and for Indonesian speakers learning English. It is a forum for practicing your language skills and for friendly cultural and information exchange.

  • Indonesian at UH has a fairly comprehensive page with all kind of Indonesia related links.
  • The National Library of Australia is another good side with a large variety of resources including business and finance, newspapers, journals, maps, government and general interest.

On-line Dictionaries

  • KEBI (Kamus Elektronik Bahasa Indonesia) translates from Indonesian to English.
  • Indonesian Conversation. This site offers translations of English words and phrases with some sound.
  • Kamus.Web.Id This site is aimed mainly at Indonesian speakers who are learning English. However the site does contain both English-Indonesian and Indonesian-English dictionaries.
  • Interactive Dictionary This dictionary is from Indonesian to English only. Good derivatives and meanings.
  • KamusIndonesia.com Another Indonesian to English site with lots of information on the usage of Indonesian words.
