Y2K in Retrospect
by David Lassner
For most of the University community Y2K may seem to have been a non-event. But for information technology professionals who worked on this very real problem for the last several years there could have been no greater measure of success. And with the Y2K work that took much of our energy largely behind us, there is plenty of catching up to do in 2000 and beyond!

This issue of InfobITS marks the 40th anniversary of the arrival of the IBM 650 mainframe at the University of Hawai‘i. In honor of that milestone of the past, and the arrival of the year 2000 in our present, this issue includes a special historical section that reminds us of just how many changes we've seen in the support of technology at the University of Hawai‘i. We hope you will enjoy the recollections of a number of past and present staff. A technology timeline highlighting major events can be viewed at www.hawaii.edu/infobits/s2000/timeline.html. Enjoy!
