Departments Save Money with ITS Site License Service by Cori Kobayashi Is your department aware of the services provided by the ITS Site License Office? ITS purchases site licenses for popular software, which allows departments across the UH system to take advantage of significant cost savings. For example, a "hot" product is Microsoft Office 2001 for the Mac. With UH's Microsoft site license, Office 2001 for the Macintosh costs $47 per computer and the media cost is $18. The retail price of the same software could exceed $200 at a local computer store. The ITS site license service allows departments to avoid the prohibitive costs of retail stores, especially if multiple copies of software are required. All departments in the UH system are eligible to take advantage of the costs savings offered through this service. The ITS Site License Web page at www.hawaii.edu/sitelic lists a variety of software, ranging from statistical packages to Microsoft products. The Web page also offers product information about new versions, provides direct links to vendors, and much more. Be sure to also take advantage of the ITS-licensed anti-virus software which is available free of charge to all UH faculty, staff, and students. Here is a general overview of how to order products. For specifics, please visit the main site license Web page. Departments may submit UH requisitions or RCUH purchase orders along with a customer information sheet to the ITS Site License Office. Our address is: University of Hawaii Information Technology Services Attn: Site License Administrator 2565 McCarthy Mall Physical Science Building 101 Honolulu, Hawaii 96822 The Site License Office will process the paperwork and after a few days, the requisitioner (the person who requested the licenses) will be notified via e-mail or phone that the order has been processed. An appointment to pick up the software is then made. Note: If we do not have enough licenses and/or media in stock, the requistioner is notified. We will follow-up with the requisitioner as soon as possible when the software and any other necessary information arrive. Software distribution (pick-up/drop-off) is located at the ITS Help Desk, located in Keller Hall 105 on the UH Manoa campus. Please remember to bring a picture ID at the time of the scheduled pick-up appointment. Neighbor island sites may arrange for software to be sent via certified mail.
