Eye contact is:
Listening is:
- an experience of someone else vs. an assessment of them.
- getting out of the way of yourself, long enough for someone else to show up in your life.
- about someone else, not you.
- not staring; staring is
- NOT eye contact.
- an offensive or a defensive tool.
- about you, not someone else.
Feedback is:
- focusing on what is being said and not on your reply.
- eyes focused, ears attuned, and lips sealed.
- getting out of the way long enough to hear someone else speak.
- an experience of someone expressed in words.
- not advice, assessment, or criticism.
- not right or wrong, good or bad.
| Reacquainting people with their people skills will enhance their ability to communicate with others. People skills are part of everyone's natural abilities, but they must be practiced and used in order to be effective. |
