Information for Undergraduate Students
The University of Hawaii is a public
institution. All students, including international students
paying non-resident tuition, are subsidized by the taxpayers
of Hawaii. The University of Hawaii Financial Aid office
administers federal and state aid to US Citizens and
Permanent Residents. International students with F-1
or J-1 non-immigrant student status are generally ineligible
for federal/state scholarship and financial aid programs
and will not be able to receive services from the Financial
Aid office.
Additionally, federal regulations governing
student visa eligibility require that international
undergraduate applicants provide official documentation
of sufficient resources to cover tuition and living
costs in Hawaii for at least the first year of study.
If documentation or funding is insufficient, the admission
office can not issue a student visa document. Thus,
international undergraduate applicants should provide
all evidence of funding, including personal, sponsor,
or scholarship funding, to the admission office during
the admission process.
Please note that newly admitted international
undergraduates are not eligible for most scholarships,
grants or tuition waivers funded by the University of
Hawaii or its donors. Therefore, neither the Admission
office nor the ISS will mail scholarship or financial
aid forms to those requesting such materials. Prospective
students may be eligible to receive scholarships, grants
or loans to fund study in the US from home country or
international scholarship sources. The University of
Hawaii at Manoa is unable to assist prospective undergraduates
in searching for such opportunities.
