ITS Bridging Service

Information Technology Services provides a bridging service to connect multiple endpoints, using one of the UH-supported videoconferencing solution or in combination.   The ITS Bridging Service is available to all UH faculty and staff for University business and distance learning.

Prior to Scheduling the Bridging Service

  1. Determine what type of endpoint connection is needed, i.e. room based videoconferencing, desktop/cloud based videoconferencing and/or phone connection.
  2. Reserve each endpoint once it has been determined what type of connection(s) is needed:
    • Room-based – contact each location’s videoconference coordinator
      1. Collect the following information for reserving the bridge:  Technical Contact Information, Endpoint I.P. Address
      2. If not certified with the ITS Bridging Service, then please have the location’s videoconference coordinator submit a Certification Request Form to ITS
    • Desktop-based
    • Cloud-based
    • Phone connection is also supported for participants connecting to conference using a landline or cellular phone.


12/16/17 – 1/7/18
Winter Break technical maintenance downtime.  Limited service available, with possible extended outages.

  1. The ITS Bridging Service is available for UH faculty and staff for University of Hawaii business and distance learning.
  2. Service is available 24 hours a day (automated service after 9:00 PM M-F, weekends, and all State and Federal holidays).
    1. Exceptions include: scheduled maintenance during Winter Recess and one-week before fall semester.
  3. Scheduling and Technical support availability is M-F 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, except University holidays.
    1. Limited support is available outside of these core service hours.

  5. To reserve the ITS Bridging Service for ad hoc conferences, please submit the online ITS Bridging Request Form at least 3 days prior to the event date.
  6. Event cancellation or changes must be made at least one business day prior to the event

Conditions of use

  1. Service is free for UH faculty and staff for University of Hawaii business.
  2. For non-UH business charges will incur.
  3. Event Requester is responsible for reserving all participating endpoints (site rooms and staff support).
    1. ITS is not responsible for reserving endpoints or conference rooms for ITS Bridging Service requests.
  4. Requesters and the respective endpoint contact person are responsible for ensuring that endpoints and conference rooms are properly scheduled for their videoconferences (e.g., not double-booked), and for resolving any and all scheduling conflicts that may affect their session.
  5. All room based endpoints must be certified with the ITS Bridge prior to submitting your request.
  6. For Desktop-based conferencing please follow procedures listed here.
  7. Event Requester is responsible for notifying all participants of connection instructions.
  8. All connection calls must be dialed-in.
  9. The ITS Bridging Service is standards-based and interoperable with most other H.323 devices (Tandbergs, LifeSize, Polycom, etc.).
  10. This service is not for use in combination with any webconferencing tools or proprietary videoconferencing tools such as Halawai, Blackboard Collaborate, Skype, WebEx, GoToMeeting, Microsoft Lync, Google+, iChat, etc.
  11. The ITS Bridging Service does not support H.320 (ISDN) endpoints.
  12. If sessions are to be recorded, Requester must:
    1. Notify each participant that they will be recorded
    2. Obtain clearance for use of any copyrighted material
  13. ITS Network Level of Service for certified and registered endpoints  – Best Effort
    1. Technical support staff, M-F 8:00 AM – 9:00 PM, by calling the Video Operations Center at (808) 956-5191
    2. Technical troubleshooting up to the standards-based videoconference endpoint device.
