The Ka Lama Preservice Teacher Education Cohort prepares Native Hawaiians, particularly Wai`anae Coast residents, to become excellent teachers, with a commitment to the area. While Ka Lama shares elements with other cohorts, it also possesses several unique characteristics:
  • Establishing community ties
  • Emphasizing themes of literacy
  • Emphasizing multicultural education and Hawaiian culture
  • Supporting the professional development of mentor teachers
  • Addressing the need for Hawaiians with graduate degrees in education
The Hawaii Community Foundation, Arneil Petrie Tout Fund, and Kaaloa Farms is a major supporter of our community efforts with the Ka Lama Preservice Teacher Education Cohort.
