12:15 – 1:30 pm WAC+ Workshop: Assignment Design Ilima 202C |
|
|
|
Did
you know that KCC began emphasizing writing as a way of learning way back in
1980? It's no wonder that writing across the curriculum is part of the
culture of KCC. Using writing in your classroom is a great way to deepen your
students’ critical thinking about and integration of whatever lesson you’re
teaching. Come to this workshop to explore some effective and engaging ways
to use writing/thinking assignments as a process for helping students learn
the course content. Colette Higgins
(History) and Nani Azman (Psychology) will show how they use formal
writing/thinking assignments in their classes. Facilitator:

1:45 – 3:00 pm 4Ts: Students in Distress Naio 203 |
|
|
|
Last semester’s Virginia Tech shootings caused
much distress among students (and faculty), and this brought to the forefront
a trend many of us have been noticing: students are coming to their teachers
more and more with their non-academic worries. And have you heard?—suicide
rates are rising. Come to this workshop series to get some ideas about how to
direct students to proper resources and help them cope with what’s
distressing them. Facilitator: Jennifer Pagala,
